Rail systems for the oil and gas industries
While the oil and gas move along pipelines, there is a lot of heavy equipment used in the construction and maintenance of facilities. Rail mounted equipment is used both onshore and offshore. Conventional cranes are used in workshops and portal; cranes in yards for handling materials required. Some drilling rigs have crane rails in the drill pipe handing equipment. Perhaps one of the heaviest applications seen is for carousels for storage and distribution pipe for offshore oil developments.
Gantrail have been involved in the installation of such circular rail systems that are rated for up to 6000 tonnes of oil pipe. Carousels have also been used for sub-sea umbilicals used in the control of sub-sea umbilical termination units and other oil production equipment.
Manufacture is at facility next to the sea and the long lengths are stored on a carousel before being loaded onto a vessel with a carousel and then placed in the final working position from that or another vessel.
